KASEP Fall 2010 Session Registration

Wednesday, September 8
6:45 - 7:15 pm, Kindergarten registration
7:15 pm, Grades 1 - 6 registration
Kensington Community Center
(aka, Youth Hut)

Please fill out your lottery slip and drop in the KCC mail box by the office door.

We apologize for holding KASEP registration on Rosh Hashanah.  We scheduled KASEP registration for the Wednesday after Labor Day, as in past years, but didn't notice that this date conflicted with Rosh Hashanah.

If your family celebrates Rosh Hashanah and you are unable to attend KASEP registration, we'd like to offer a volunteer to register for you that night.  Please submit your lottery slip to the KCC office by Tuesday morning, Sept 7, along with your registration forms.  We'll have a volunteer at registration who will act as your proxy.  Please also include the worksheet with first and second choices for classes.

Please call the KCC office at (510) 525-0292 if you have any questions.

Again, our sincere apologies for the scheduling conflict.

Kensington After School Enrichment Program

The Kensington After School Enrichment Program (KASEP) offers a wonderful variety of classes to students in kindergarten through sixth grade. There are three sessions each year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Registration for the Fall 2010 session of KASEP will be held at the Kensington Community Center on Wednesday, September 8, starting at 6:45 pm for Kindergarten and 7:15 for grades 1-6. Our Fall session begins Monday, September 20th, and continues until Friday, December 17th.

Kindergarten parents do not need to escort their children to KASEP classes. KASEP teachers walk the kindergarten students from school to KASEP. Parents or caregivers pick up kindergarten students at the end of their classes.

Students in Grades 1-6 walk down on their own after school to their KASEP classes. For students attending Neighborhood School, a Neighborhood School care-provider will escort students back to Neighborhood after their KASEP classes. Please call Neighborhood School at 510-236-5901 for more details.

Some FAQs about KASEP follow:

I can't attend registration-how do I sign up for classes?

Another family can list you on their lottery slip and sign up for both families at registration. They cannot register for you if your name is not on their lottery slip. You can also sign up for any spaces left in classes after registration in the KCC offce. Only one lottery slip should be submitted for two families registering together.

Can I register if I forgot to submit a lottery slip?

You can come to registration and receive a number that follows the numbers given out through the lottery. As above, you can also sign up for any spaces left in classes after registration in the KCC offce.

What happens if I arrive at registration after my name has been called?

You'll need to get a "walk-in" number and wait until the rest of the lottery numbers have been called.

Do I need to fll out any paper work before registration?

Please fill out the top section of the registration form and bring it with you to registration. The registrar will fill in classes for you at the bottom of the sheet, so please leave this part blank. You'll fnd a separate worksheet in the packet that you can use to jot down first and second choices for classes.

May I register if I owe money for a previous session?

No, you may not sign up for classes at registration. Please come by the KCC offce to clear your account. You may register in the offce for classes with openings.

Do I need a lottery number to sign up for gymnastics and karate?

No, you may sign up for karate directly without having a lottery number. Please call Judy Baker at 233-1833 for questions about gymnastics.

Can I pay by credit card?

KCC currently can only accept cash or checks.

How do I enroll?

A brochure with class information was sent home from school with your child. Please fill out the lottery slip in the packet and turn it in to the KCC office (in the Recreation Building next to the park) by 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 7th. We have a lottery drawing mid-day to determine the order of registration. By 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8th, we post all the names in their order for registration at the Community Center and Recreation Building. We will also post the names in their order on the website listed at the bottom of the page. Registration for classes begins at 6:45 p.m. that evening in the Community Center for kindergarten students and at 7:15 p.m. for grades 1-6.

How do I find out more?

Please call the Kensington Community Council office at (510) 525-0292.
